Swearing when you’re hurt helps reduce pain.

In a study, volunteers who cursed could tolerate pain for nearly 50% longer than volunteers who did not. Researchers at Keene University submerged volunteers’ hands into freezing water to see if swearing affected their pain tolerance. The volunteers could tolerate the pain for 2 minutes when they swore, but only 1 minute and 15 seconds without swearing.

This may be because the act of swearing triggers our natural “fight or flight” response. This would increase our heart rate and downplay the importance of pain. However, if you swear all the time, swearing when experiencing pain will probably not be very effective.

A strawberry is not an actual berry, but a banana is.

By technical definition, a berry is a fleshy fruit produced from a single seed. The strawberry, however has its dry, yellow “seeds” on the outside (each of which is actually considered a separate fruit). True berries, such as blueberries and cranberries have seeds inside. However, the banana fruit is a berry for the same reason strawberries are not. There is a theory that strawberries were named by 19th century children who picked the fruit, strung them on grass straws, and sold them as “Straws of berries”.

A mosquito is more likely to bite a blonde than a brunette.

Mosquitos see heat given off in the form of C02, so the more C02 you emit, the more delicious you look. This means they prefer large people (not kids), pregnant women, people wearing cologne/perfume, and sweaty people / people breathing hard. So chill out. And make sure there’s no stagnant water/pools/ponds near your house - that’s where they breed.
